Position Announcement 

Staff Assistant, Executive Office of the Mayor

The Executive Office of Mayor Adrian M. Fenty seeks an enthusiastic, motivated, dedicated individual to serve in the Mayor’s Office in an administrative role.

Ideal candidates are highly organized, manage time well, extremely detailed, work well under stress, enjoy problem solving, and are available and willing to work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends.
 
Tasks include:
  • Responsible for the day to day operation of the Office
  • Answers and returns calls or directs calls to other appropriate staff and officials
  • Helping constituents and officials with their concerns. Appropriate actions are taken to facilitate response to the callers’ concerns and questions.
  • Receives, proofreads, and transmits letters and memoranda's
  • The correspondence is submitted for review and clearance prior to the Mayor’s approval and/or signature.  This process includes checking for appropriate content and typographical errors and making sure that responses are being made on timely basis. 
  • Responsible for tracking and a filing system for correspondence with the Office.
  • Conducts research into matters of general or specific concern which affect the management of the office, i.e., personnel and procurement. 
  • Advise professional staff throughout the Mayor’s office on any management or policy changes that have not been otherwise communicated through formal changes.
  • Coordinates the time and attendance for the Office of the Mayor.
We are looking for individuals who are ready to join our team in completing the Mayor’s vision for the District.  A love for politics is a must.
 
The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college, be knowledgeable about the functions of District government agencies.
 
Salary Range for the position: $40,000-$55,000
 
This position requires that the selected individual to become a domiciliary of the District of Columbia. The selected individual must either: (1) be a domiciliary of the District of Columbia at the time of appointment and maintain such domicile during the period of the appointment; or (2) become a domiciliary of the District of Columbia within 180 days of the date of the appointment and maintain such domicile during the period of the appointment.

This is an Excepted Service appointment. Selectee will be eligible for health and life insurance, annual (vacation) and sick leave and will be covered under the District of Columbia government's retirement plan.
