Department of Parks and Recreation Fitness Center Deduction

Fitness CenterAs of January 1, 2016, Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Fitness Center memberships are free for District residents. Any resident wishing to become a DPR Fitness Center member must register online and complete a waiver release form. For more information, please visit the DPR website.

DCHR and the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) have partnered to offer District Government employees who are not District residents reduced rates on DPR fitness center memberships through payroll deduction. Employees have the option to register via PeopleSoft for an annual non-refundable membership that will provide the employee and/or their family members with access to DPR fitness centers. Employees may enroll during the designated annual Open Enrollment period, within 31 days of their initial employment, or within 30 days of a qualifying life event.

Please Note: This discount applies to DPR fitness centers only, it does not include aquatic centers.
 
DPR has more than 20 fitness centers across the city that feature a variety of cardio, strength training and mobile fitness equipment and classes. *Family is defined as an adult at least 18 years of age living in the same household. Proof of address and/or proof of relationship is needed to complete the Family registration process.
 

How to Enroll in the DPR Fitness Center Benefit in PeopleSoft

  • Login to PeopleSoft at https://ess.dc.gov
  • Click on Self-Service, then click on Benefits, and select Benefits Enrollment.
  • You will see the DPR Fitness Center listed. Click Select.
  • On the next screen, you will see your current election for the DPR Fitness Center. If you do not have any changes to the current election, click I Have No Changes. If you would like to change the election, click Edit.
  • If you are editing your election, the next screen will appear. Under Select an Option, select the coverage level you would like to enroll in (Self Only or Family). You can also waive this benefit. Once you have selected the correct election, click Continue.
  • On the next screen, you will review your election. Under the Notes section, you will see when the benefit will take effect and when your deductions will begin. If the election is correct, click OK. To edit the election, click Edit. On the next screen, you will be able to Submit your election, if you have no additional changes. Click Cancel if you would like to edit your election.
  • Upon submitting your election, you will receive a confirmation email that will include the coverage elected (Self Only or Family), if the employee is a resident or non-resident, and the estimated costs for the benefit. Employees will need to bring this email confirmation or a paystub from PeopleSoft to register at a DPR fitness center. 

How to Register at a DPR Fitness Center After Completing Enrollment in PeopleSoft

  • One pay period after the first payroll deduction, employees and/or family members will be able to register at a DPR fitness center. Registration can be completed at any time after the first payroll deduction.
  • To register, employees will need to bring the following to any fitness center at a DPR recreational center :
    • DPR Fitness Center benefit election confirmation email or a paystub showing the payroll deduction and benefit category for which they enrolled.
    • Government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license or passport.
  • To register family members, employees will need to accompany their family member(s) to any DPR fitness center and bring the following:
    • Proof of relationship to the employee, such as a birth, marriage, or domestic partnership certificate.
      • Family members’ government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, etc.
  • Once registered, employees and family members will be required to sign a liability waiver to use the fitness centers.
  • After completing registration, employees and their family members will be able to visit any DPR fitness center. Employees and family members will need to bring a government-issued photo ID each time they visit any DPR fitness center.
