Mayor Bowser Announces Third “DC Hires Vets” Event

Friday, November 8, 2019
Event to Connect Veterans with Jobs in DC Government, Federal Agencies, and Private Sector

(Washington, DC) – On Friday, November 15, at the DC Armory, the DC Department of Human Resources (DCHR), in partnership with the Department of Employment Services, the Mayor’s Office of Veterans Affairs (MOVA), and the DC National Guard, will host the District’s third DC Hires Vets event. Qualified veterans and their spouses will have the opportunity to apply and be interviewed, on-the-spot, for positions across DC Government. Additionally, the event will include over 100 vendors, giving veterans, their spouses, and transitioning military members the opportunity to apply for positions with federal agencies, private-sector companies, and service organizations.

“The best way to thank our veterans for their service is to welcome them home with opportunities that provide a pathway to the middle class,” said Mayor Bowser. “This hiring event will enable us to connect skilled, hardworking veterans with positions here in District Government so they can keep serving their communities.”

The event is free, but registration is required. Attendees should bring either a DD-214, VA card, military ID, letter from an assisted veterans’ home indicating the status as a veteran or other equivalent documentation. View listing of vendors and positions.

“All of DC veterans deserve a pathway to the middle class,” said MOVA Director Elliot Tommingo. “Employment is the first step.”

During the event, DCHR will launch its new hiring program, Call for Hire: DC Government Veterans Hiring Program, to create a sustained focus on hiring veterans for District Government jobs. Through this program, agencies can directly hire eligible veterans and their spouses to fill jobs across the District.

“This program further reflects our commitment to our veterans,” said DCHR Director Ventris C. Gibson.

Through a partnership with Via, veterans in its respective service zones will be able to receive free shared rides to and from the DC Armory for the hiring event using code “DCGov4Vets.”
